Bari City Tree

Installed in Bari based on pedestrian flow analysis, the structure integrates neuroscience and environmental psychology principles to improve accessibility and visibility.

The installation simulates an urban forest. Created by JTI Italia and Save the Planet and inaugurated in Largo Sorrentino in Bari, it features seating at its base functioning as benches and is designed to capture pollutants, purify surrounding air for nearly 10,000 people per hour, cool adjacent spaces and reduce the urban heat island effect. The project involved a data-driven site analysis based on applied neuroscience. City Tree was conceived as an educational installation aimed at raising awareness of urban environmental issues and possible solutions, improving quality of life. The experience was complemented by informational video content explaining air purification benefits and City Tree functionality, making its positive impact on the urban microclimate visible and understandable.
This urban acupuncture intervention creates a welcoming public space and demonstrates how research and technology can concretely support environmental protection.
