Chiesa di San Paolo Converso
The deconsecrated Church of San Paolo Converso becomes a venue for events and exhibitions through an intervention that combines historical conservation and advanced digital tools.
Within Deloitte’s new campus in Milan, the deconsecrated Church of San Paolo Converso, dating back to the 16th century, was the subject of a digitization project aimed at restoring its functional and cultural role for the city. We carried out an integrated digital survey using photogrammetry, laser scanning and GNSS, generating a highly precise 3D point cloud. The collected information went beyond documenting the existing conditions and was used to build a BIM model structured both geometrically and informationally. Conceived as a true intelligent database, the model links each element to data on materials, conservation status and physical-mechanical properties. Through a virtual tour of the model, it was also possible to describe, simulate and envision future scenarios for using and enhancing the church as a public and exhibition space.
The BIM model becomes an active tool for management and prevention, enabling ongoing monitoring of the building and an innovative enhancement of historic heritage within the campus.
