The campus renovation and refurbishment project for Baker Hughes in Florence transformed a long-established production site into a dynamic, interconnected ecosystem.

The intervention reconfigured the volumes of nine buildings, unifying them into a single integrated system that connects offices, production departments, and shared spaces.

A comprehensive reorganization of flows, functions, and visual identity creates continuity between operational areas and places for interaction. The project covers a total area of 30,000 square meters and redefines the entire campus through new physical and visual connections.
Four buildings were vertically extended by one floor and linked by canopies that shape new covered plazas, event spaces, and protected pathways. Bioclimatic greenhouses ensure continuity along internal routes while enhancing environmental comfort. The new campus canteen also hosts La Fabbrica dell’Aria®, a botanical system designed for the natural filtration of air.
The project originated from an audit aimed at assessing spatial inclusivity and evolved through an integrated approach encompassing architectural, building systems, and service redesign, enriched by an artistic intervention in dialogue with the local context. This process distinguishes the campus for its ability to combine design quality, wellbeing, and social value.
Completing the intervention, an art-driven urban regeneration initiative strengthens the relationship between the campus and its surroundings. Lombardini22 and Artlane launched a participatory process involving over 20 local schools in the design and creation of three murals inspired by the theme “The future of energy through your eyes.” This cultural action transforms the campus into a space open to dialogue, integrating creativity, education, and collective identity.
