L'Equilibrista

Set within Palazzo Ruffo della Scaletta, the installation is designed to be experienced rather than simply viewed. Its elements come to life only when several people engage with them together.

A circular, upholstered seat with a rocking mechanism invites people to pause and spend time together. It combines a modular metal frame in a deep purplish red with textured coral-coloured upholstery, while a system of dampers responds to users’ movements. An open, circular pavilion defines the gathering space while maintaining views of the surroundings. An overhead projector casts the structure’s shadows onto the cushions, creating a play of light that brings its geometry onto the seating surface.
Guided by the “Design to Humanise” approach, L’Equilibrista shifts the focus from the individual to the connections between people, and between people and their surroundings, using design to bring people together.
