Università Bocconi

The system applies to all campus buildings, from SDA to other complexes, dialoguing with architectures from different eras and reinforcing a sense of belonging to the Bocconi community.

The Bocconi University wayfinding system goes beyond traditional signage, becoming an orientation tool that transforms space into a clear and intuitive experience. Developed through analysis of user flows and behaviors, it applies Space Syntax theories to identify key spaces, main routes and orientation nodes. The system connects historic and contemporary architectures through a deliberately neutral visual language that dialogues with diverse contexts without overlapping them. Analog signage is complemented by a digital layer, with QR codes linking to informational content developed by the University. Color, typography and pictograms play a central role, ensuring clarity and recognizability. Pictograms reinterpret universal symbols to incorporate Bocconi’s identity, while maps are redesigned for greater clarity. A shared content hierarchy standardizes building naming and rules. The introduction of A-B-C zones improves campus legibility and permeability, strengthening connections with the surrounding neighborhood.
Inspired by post-war Italian design culture, the project references clarity, rigor and communicative power, reinterpreted to create a contemporary, essential and durable orientation system.
